Absolute Reality

I met up with Sune, the Danish traveler I had met days before in the smoking lounge. I was reading the next book that will be quoted on Void, Everything Bad Is Good For You – How Today’s Popular Culture Is Actually Making Us Smarter and he struck up a conversation. I was a bit resistant to people at this point, being it was the end of my trip and I was cooling down from socializing, I attempted to shy away from it. After many hours of talking about our interests we came to realize how much we need to show each other. For the next few days we spent most of our time exploring downtown and watching endless movies in the library. Needless to say I look forward to seeing him again in San Diego. I’m flying down and he will be driving. This should be interesting!

“I wondered how much of this was science fiction, and how much was genuinely likely to happen.”

de Young Museum And Old Wants

Today I went to the de Young museum in Golden Gate Park. I ended up getting there a bit late so I was only able to snap a few photos before they closed for the night. Being back in San Francisco is great – I absolutely love it here. I have explored and photographed much of the city throughout the year. I could very well think about calling this place ‘Home’ one day, but longer than a few weeks at a time. Throughout my travels I have thought long and hard about the world and where I would want to move to for an extended period of time and be able to function there happily. It seems San Francisco is on my mind a lot. Maybe this will be another path of the journey that is Void?

“I know there are people who must be completely independent of others in order to feel free. For them, responding to someone else is like obeying a command. Any action that does not spring entirely from their own desires is false. I can understand this compulsion for detachment.”
– Jerzy Kosinski, The Devil Tree

“There are no limits to thought, everything can be understood, one day everything will be understood.”
– Tor Norretranders, The User Illusion

“All the time there is use there is use and any time there is a surface there is a surface, and every time there is an exception there is an exception and every time there is a division there is a dividing.”
– Gertrude Stein, Tender Buttons

Back Home, Then On To San Francisco

After returning home for a short time, I repacked my bags and hit the road again, but not until after a nice Thanksgiving with the family. How good it is to see them again!

When I arrived in San Francisco, I quickly headed to the smoking room after saying many hellos to staff I have met. For a few minutes I just melted at the sight of the painting. Still there and caked in tar from cigarettes. It can be washed so I wasn’t too concerned. The sheer sight of the murals was breathtaking. I remember every brush stroke. I loved being there again.

That night I met Sune, a Danish traveler who was currently located in Los Angeles where he is pursuing a career in movie editing. Parting ways for the night I went off to meet an old friend from the East Coast – Mike.

Mike and I set off the next day to visit the sights, namely the Golden Gate Bridge that I didn’t get to see the first two times, and the fort that sits below it. That night we had a nice exploration at the Wharf and viewed some amazing photographs in a gallery that sits near the water’s edge.

“It is particularly incumbent on those who never change their opinion, to be secure of judging properly at first.”
– Jane Austin and Seth Grahame-Smith, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

“And everywhere people asked him why he was walking through the country. Because he loved true things he tried to explain.”
– John Steinbeck, Cannery Row

“The human mind was able to formulate the idea of a universal calculating machine at the very moment it became obvious that we cannot calculate everything mechanically; that there are questions that we know as answerable only once they have been answered, and not before.”
– Tor Norretranders, The User Illusion

“That is to say, depth is a measure of how many surprises the object has been subjected to in its history.”
