Waking up a bit later than I ever have before on this trip, I decided it was a good day to venture over to the Batu caves. A fellow traveler – Hannah – also wanted to go which made for an even better day. Figuring out the train system was a bit of fun as we often had to get on and off the commuter line several times before we figured out how to get there. Two hours later we arrived, only to be attacked right inside the gates.
We had brought lychees with us for a snack and this did not go over well with the horde of monkeys that waited for unsuspecting travelers. No matter though, it made for wonderful pictures! No wonder the guy at the front desk told Hannah to watch out for the monkeys (which I was not privy to) – we didn’t even see them until our bag was ripped half open!
Now it was time to make our way up the massive amount of stairs, which was a feat in itself, only to be thrust into awe at the top with the beautiful shrines that were built into the walls and the décor that the earth so gracefully made. It was magical and left us feeling very fulfilled. The ride back however was much easier and much less dramatic, making our way through the China Town markets to grab some fruit. I tried a new one I haven’t had the pleasure to until now – Jack Fruit – which is simply divine in my opinion!
