An inch from the curb

On Friday, my bunk mate Craig woke me up early, leading me to believe that we would be hanging out on the beach and possibly going to the zoo. Little did I know that he would surprise me by renting a black mustang convertible to tour the island of O’ahu! We had an amazing time – I think the following pictures speak for themselves!

We climbed Diamond Head (in flip-flops), watched the surfers, saw some sea turtles feeding, hung out on as many cliffs as we could find, were stalked by the army, went to North Shore and did just about everything in between.

Destination F

Sadly, I chose the wrong hostel to stay in on O’ahu. To get away from the “party” atmosphere I did not intend to be a part of, I booked a flight to the big island and am now sitting in the most lovely hostel near the beach.

People here speak easy, walk slowly, and tell you to stop being so nice. It is almost as if I walked out of hell this morning and right into heaven! Let’s hope so.

Onward To The Big Island

You sit up on your perch for the rest of the night.
You watch the moon and hope the damn thing crumbles.
You count the stars reflecting in the windows.
And then you realize just how minimal you are.

I stop and watch the airplanes leave the city.
And I silently wish I was on one.

We’ll leave on the evening train.
It won’t be long, but it feels that way.
But home never meant very much to us anyway.
So we convince ourselves that we’re better off gone.
And maybe we’re right.
