Bulb and bracelet endeavor

Here are some photos from the attempt the night before and more day shots from this morning as Jason and I set out for the flower market and bracelet hunting. I snapped a neat photo in one of the shops – such silly signs for silly people. Anyhow, it was a very successful morning – although of course, there is never enough time to spend with anyone you meet. You learn to make the best of each and every moment. If it’s standing by a canal having a cigarette or walking to the corner store, everything is it’s own adventure and we should all be aware of them. If you can’t embrace those small moments then what, really, can you embrace?

Playing parts with canals

Tonight Jared and I went to photograph the canals at midnight. Although the night shots weren’t successful, that doesn’t mean the night wasn’t! We ended up getting lost of course and finding a bench with a wonderful view of a canal. How wonderful to sit there and pretend we were academic snobs who came to Europe to talk intellectually. It was quite fun! I will miss getting lost in Amsterdam.

I remember a letter she sent me once. “With you,” she wrote, “I feel the reverse of that fear I usually feel with others. I’m sure you’ll accept the parts of me that are complex but I’m not sure about the parts that are ridiculously simple.”

I tried to explain that the freedom I have always desired has nothing to do with being able to travel or with surrendering responsibility; it means not being afraid, not disguising myself and not performing, not structuring my feelings to gain another’s approval.

Like most people, [he] is simply searching for an activity to label his existence.

It’s all hotels, canals and museums

While trying to get on the internet at the hostel outside of town, I met Jared, a fellow traveler. We took a walk back to the nearby park and both left this morning for our other hostels in town. Instead of wasting the day, since it is raining, we decided it would be a good museum day. Meeting up at the Anne Frank house, we started our journey. I must say, out of all the museums I have seen so far, the Anne Frank house was by far the most moving.

We ventured toward the Van Gogh museum on the other side of the city and stopped at Vondelpark for a bit of relaxation before we made our way. We must have stayed too long because by the time we got to the Van Gogh museum it was closed. However, it was the perfect time to take shots of the famous Iamsterdam statue right near it. Making our way back, we stopped for some Italian food, some photos and a nice video clip for Void.
