Destination S

Arrival in Vietnam and how sweet it is! Of course, what would be a new destination without a bit of trouble? Although I had all my documents for my Visa ready, I did not however have the $25 USD with me… all I had were Indian Rupees! So after a bit of waiting and smiling at the nice female officer, I was escorted through passport control to convert my Rupees to USD. This was the first time in months now that I have held my own country’s money (and the first time I had ever exchanged money)! Only to be given up right away of course… but no matter, it was off to the ATM for me. And how funny it is, that the further east I go, the higher the currency denominations get! The conversion rate is 1 USD = 20,000 Vietnam Dong. So of course I had to take out 2 million Vietnam Dong from the machine. I have never felt so rich with monopoly money before! That is the running joke of course, that you only feel your own country’s money has value to you and everyone else’s is monopoly money, it just feels so false.

Off to ‘Nam

Last days are always hard, leaving a city that you finally feel comfortable in for a brand new one you know nothing about. Well, my experiences in India have been slightly different than the usual ones. It has taught me a great many things about myself and the world and I am happy and as well, sad to leave. Although I would have liked to have traveled more through the countryside, I will need to save that for another time. Now it is time to pack up my gear, as I head out for the next leg of my journey – my next and last that is. Vietnam marks 3/4th of my world map which means I am on my final journey home! However, there is still a long way to go and many, many miles left to travel.

Taste and shake it

Spending some time indoors and relaxing has been going well. I don’t have much interest in people watching now so much as trying the food in India. So, while I engage in stuffing myself silly, I have spent some time painting and taking shaky video on the street. I have added three paintings to Paint | Asia and a shaky video that I have also displayed below.
