Destination U

I must say that out of all the flights I have ever taken, the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore was the best ever. Singapore may have hundreds of ships in its harbors but the scene is absolutely beautiful. The islands and cruise ships completely took my breath away! I am very much looking forward to the trip to Fiji now – but first I have a lot of travels before then.

Singapore is by far the loveliest city; it is so clean and comforting. I can understand why people love living here so much – they have a great quality of life. It is a bit commercial but it doesn’t smother the beauty of the city at all. The subways are fantastic – nothing beats my love of the New York subway but Singapore feels more like home than home does.

Next stop is last stop in Asia

Today is the next set of tracks I make on my journey and the last set of tracks I make in Asia. Singapore is all booked and ready for the final show! Fellow travelers have had mixed reviews of Singapore but I am determined of course, to form my own, keeping an open mind of the next week to come. A short, yet sweet flight for the day and then a good sleep. It has been awhile since I’ve had a proper night’s sleep – why make this an exception?

Weddings by bathroom stalls

Feeling a bit better today, a fellow traveler – Nikoli – and I decided to take a stroll in the nearby parks before the daily rains came. A stroll meaning we had to go down some winding streets, cross a freeway, up stairs to train platforms, circle around the overpass and descend stairs to the street, take an underground pass across another freeway, then through more winding, jungle laid streets (which had some cute baby monkeys playing in the trees), to reach the park gate which led to another long stretch of paths and hills down to a small lake.

Resting and trying to cool off at the lake, we had the fortunate sight to spot three recently married couples taking pictures, which happened to be right next to the bathrooms at the boathouse. What lovely memories that will make! I snapped a few photos of two of these couples, but as the skies threatened rain, we decided to make our long trek back.

We stopped shortly for some local food (which I pray will settle well with my already hurt stomach) and was quickly followed by afternoon naps. We arrived just in time for the massive thunderstorms that you can pretty much set your watch by around here.

“Held to the past too aware of the pending
Loiter the whole day through and lose yourself in lines dissecting love.”
– The Shins, Past And Pending

“And if you’d ‘a took to me like
A gull takes to the wind.
Well, I’d ‘a jumped from my tree
And I’d a danced like the king of the eyesores
And the rest of our lives would ‘a fared well.”
– The Shins, New Slang
