So, they are ‘lane-ways’ not ‘alleyways’

Tonight I met up with Min – we went for dinner and then bounced around the lower part of the city, revisiting the alleyways or the lane-ways (as native Australians call them). At the end of one lane-way, I spotted a very creative PacMan street art guide game. We attempted to locate another one close by but unfortunately ran out of time as I had to get back to log into work and he had to get home to go to sleep for the long day tomorrow. I’m lucky enough to have tomorrow off due to my flight to New Zealand being so early in the New York City day. However it still leaves the entire day and most of the night to some more adventures in Melbourne!

“You be damned to be one of us, girl,
Faced with the dodo’s conundrum
I felt like I could just fly
But nothing happened every time I tried.”

Hidden alleys of art

Today I took another stroll around Melbourne, but much longer this time. I had heard about hidden alleys with walls of art that are around the city and I was lucky enough to happen upon two of them. I spent a lot of time looking at them and a good amount of time photographing them. Night shots have never been easy for me, but from all the tips and lessons along my travels, I was able to fiddle around and grab some rather impressive shots! Well, impressive to me at least! I feel like I’m finally getting a handle on this camera. My goal to learn how to be a photographer on this journey is coming along rather well. I have nearly 27,000 photos shot from this camera, but of course a lot less on the site.

“But we are all travelers in what John Bunyan calls the wilderness of this world – all, too, travelers with a donkey; and the best that we find in our travels is an honest friend. He is a fortunate voyager who finds many. We travel, indeed, to find them. They are the end and the reward of life. They keep us worthy of ourselves; and, when we are alone, we are only nearer to the absent.”
– R. L. Stevenson, Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes

“…let her go at her own pace, and let me patiently follow.”
– R. L. Stevenson, Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes

“There is something better than music in the wide unusual silence; and it disposes him to amiable thoughts, like the sound of a little river or the warmth of sunlight.”
– R. L. Stevenson, Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes

In their natural habitat

Today I took a walk around Melbourne on my own, photographing Aussies in their natural habitat. It was loads of fun even though it was short. Since it is only going into their spring here and I don’t have very warm clothes being as I have been in hot areas for the past few months, I decided not to walk around outside too long. However they do have many excellent little coffee shops all over the place with heated outdoor areas.
