More from the basement

I wonder how many more museums I can fit in my schedule here… Probably for the next few days I can manage many more, but I think this should be a sufficient amount of photographs. I really need to get moving on paintings but maybe I’ll hold that off for the next destination, who knows? I have a ton of inspiration from the Art Gallery but I need a bit more time to get my creative juices flowing! Today however, I took a stroll with Sebastian, from Argentina, to the Auckland Museum. Here are some rather interesting photos of our excursion.

“For there are two possible reactions to social ostracism – either a man emerges determined to be better, purer, and kindlier or he goes bad, challenges the world and does even worse things.”
– John Steinbeck, Cannery Row

“Art is not eternal.”
– Tom Wolfe, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test

“All this attention flatters me but at the same time I know it’s completely superficial. These people see exactly what they want to see and what they want to see is a spoiled rich boy, dissatisfied with life.”
–  Jerzy Kosinski, The Devil Tree

“It opened, stood open for a moment, and then closed with a slam.”
– H.G. Wells, The Invisible Man

Burning out in Kiwi-land

Each day seems to take a toll on me. Traveling is a ton of fun for sure but doing so much all the time is wearing me out. I always have to make sure my flights are in line, my accommodation is in line, my rent back home is paid on time, my sleep schedule works with the parts of the day I would like to be awake and the time I have to be at work, having enough food or knowing where to go to get it – be it during the middle of the day or the middle of the night, and just so many normal things most people take for granted. Having enough shampoo is one thing and even considering the weight of baggage that I need to take with me. More often than not my backpack comes in handy. It’s the wheeled carry-on luggage I bought in India that sometimes gets in the way. However it has saved me at the airport before with a redistribution of weight.

Anyway – point is there are a lot of things to think about and a lot to do all the time. Many people have mentioned to me they have no idea how I do it and they would have been burned out a long time ago. Honestly, I have no idea how I do it either. It just becomes a life like any other life. After awhile you do start missing home and you do start missing the routine you escaped long ago. Often, when you get what you want, you don’t necessarily want it anymore, no matter how fun it is. Sometimes, I just wish I were home where I could kick up my legs on my couch, curl up with a good book, and settle down with my cats.

Two months to go before I can have this again, two months of discovery. Every time it seems that this week will be boring for the site, this week won’t amount to much, I seem to stumble upon some fantastic pictures or read a fantastic book. Even though I won’t be on a safari out here in New Zealand, doesn’t mean I’m not having a fantastic time going to their museums. Besides, it’s still the winter here and I only have summer clothes!

“You had to know that I was fond of you,
Fond of Y-O-U”
– The Shins, Turn On Me

“Every thing’s got a moral, if only you can find it.”
– Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

“You sense that there is something treacherous hiding behind every reef; no matter how much you explore you won’t ever know what it is.”
– Jerzy Kosinski, The Devil Tree

“Work is largely repetitive, while reading imparts something new.”
– Sean

“We can talk to each other about consciousness, but it is fundamentally, ineradicably subjective in character, a phenomenon that can be experienced only alone, from within.”
– Tor Norretranders, The User Illusion

Endless wanderings, why stop now?

A day to wander, read and eat. It is about time that I start planning for the trip home as I’m greatly about to finish off my trip around the world! To circle it is one and many adventures, but to get home is surely an adventure in itself and should be treated as such. Therefore while traveling the continent of Australia, I will be revising the plans of travel across the USA in World | Australia. However this time it will be first by flight and then by car – making my way home to New York.

“The thing was easy to decide, hard to accomplish.”
– R. L. Stevenson, Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes

“Of all conceivable journeys, this promised to be the most tedious.”
– R. L. Stevenson, Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes

“The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second.”
– John Steinbeck, Cannery Row
