Going out windows

What a busy week – saw the family for Thanksgiving and my father’s birthday. Yesterday, Mitch and I went to the Natural History Museum and had a magnificent time! Here are some interesting pictures from our excursion.

THE SEMAI: Society and Ideology

In the egalitarian Semai society, relationships between men and women are easy and reciprocal. Though recognized, marriage is not formal. What counts is ability to get along harmoniously, and this ability pervades all family relationships. The Semai view the world in terms of things one may do and things one ought not do. They believe a person consists of six things: vital soul, spirit or will, thought or consciousness, breath or fuel to live by, health, and pulse – the test of living. What one does or ought not do can affect these things for good or bad. Bad luck, for example, can be brought on by being unhappy or causing unhappiness; therefore the Semai are nonviolent.
