Bold, unusual color choices show the artist’s confidence. It also encourages audience participation, as staring at this piece intently for 30 seconds then looking at a blank wall… well, it doesn’t do much. But it looks like that kind of painting, so that you think it might do something. A well-taught lesson in false assumptions.
